Olivia Vihant

My name is Olivia Vihant and I am a 4th year UBC Midwifery Student who may be involved in your care between September 2022 and April 2023! I grew up on the opposite coast in Nova Scotia and, prior to starting Midwifery school, completed a BSc in Anthropology and Medical Sciences in Ontario.

Following graduation, I knew I wanted to become a healthcare provider, but wasn’t exactly sure which path to take. During this time, I received the opportunity complete research and internships in East and West Africa with women-led NGOs in global health and became inspired to work in maternity care.

I was attracted to the midwifery model of care here in BC, with its tenants like client autonomy and informed decision-making. I have always believed women to be incredibly strong and capable, and am continuously astounded by the incredible displays of strength that I bear witness to in birth work. Over the last few years, I have learned from the midwives and families in Victoria and Kamloops.

I was also drawn to BC for the access to the mountains and outdoors and, in my personal time, you may find me outdoors trail running, biking, skiing, or paddling. I have held summer jobs ranging from trip guide to tree planter (most recently, in near-by Smithers!). I also enjoy cooking, reading, playing guitar, or crafting. I am new to Prince George, so I welcome any suggestions for places to see/things to do and eat in town!

I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn from Westhill Midwifery and finish my training here. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you during this transformative time in your families’ lives.

Thank you!

Olivia
