UPDATE: ON LEAVE MAY 2018 ONWARD - AVAILABILITY TBA
Until meeting a midwife in 2007, I was not aware that midwifery was a thriving profession in Canada, or that a strong desire to become a midwife would soon be my goal. After completing a degree in Social Welfare at Nipissing University (in North Bay, Ontario), my interest in health policy and women's health fueled my fire to pursue a degree in midwifery, and I joined the Laurentian University Midwifery Education Program (MEP) in Sudbury in 2009. Laurentian University has a strong focus on northern and rural midwifery practice, and my training reflected the values of community, resource planning, and preparedness in a remote location. After completing clinical training in London, Toronto, and Oshawa, I finished the last year of my program and my first year as a registered midwife at a bustling midwifery practice in North York. I enjoyed serving a diverse group of women and learning from several highly experienced midwives.
I currently live in Prince George with my son Kiernan, who was born at home with midwives, and my daughter Ramona Jo, who was born in hospital with midwives. These experiences strengthened my belief that birth is both a normal and sacred everyday miracle. I strongly believe in the importance of informed choice, the appropriate use of technology, and building a relationship with my clients based on trust, open communication, and learning from each other. When not working as a midwife or teaching prenatal classes, I enjoy spending time with my family, writing, photography, and gardening. I also very much enjoy travel and have been lucky enough to spend time in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and South America.
I am currently registered with the College of Midwives of BC and adhere to their standards, guidelines, and protocols. I am also a member of the Midwives Association of BC (MABC), and maintain a current certification in neonatal resuscitation, CPR, crisis management, Electronic Fetal Monitoring, and obstetrical emergency skills.
I look forward to meeting and working with you and your family!
