My name is Becca and I have been working as a midwife in Prince George for the past 2 years (some of you may recognize me from the New Beginnings office). Unfortunately, our old clinic is closing but I am very excited to be helping at Westhill until I go on maternity leave in February 2022!
A little about myself: I was born in Vancouver to immigrant parents but lived most of my life in Kelowna ~ part of the unceded territory of the Syilx/Okanagan people. In 2014, I completed a BSc in Biochemistry at UBCO. I was strongly considering medical school at that point, until I attended a UBC Midwifery program information session.
During the presentation a midwife shared experiences from her practice and a spark got ignited in my heart. I was attracted to the person-centred approach of midwifery care, the time spent with families cultivating relationship, and how uniquely midwifery can bridge the clinical and relational dimensions of maternity care.
A year later I was accepted into the UBC Midwifery program and have attended births literally across the province: Vancouver, Penticton, Prince George, Parksville, Williams Lake, and Nelson. Since settling in Prince George, I have so enjoyed exploring the craft and calling that is midwifery in this rural community. One of my favourite parts of this work is being able to journey with families, helping them feel informed and confident as they navigate this season of pregnancy, birth, and parenthood.
My deepest gratitude for giving me the opportunity to support you and your families. I look forward to meeting you over the next few months.
